Typically consists of a transparent film, backing paper, and adhesive. The transparent film is typically made of polyethylene or polyurethane. The backing paper protects the film and is removed during use. The adhesive is medical glue. Some transparent dressings also include an absorbent pad, typically made of cotton fiber or non-woven fabric, to absorb wound exudate.

Open the package and sterilely remove the transparent dressing. Pull the dressing aside from the folded edge of the centrifugal paper. With the adhesive side facing downward, secure the central adhesive area of the transparent dressing to the wound. Completely remove the release paper and smooth the surrounding area to ensure full contact with the skin.
